DAAD In-Country/In-Region Masters/PhD Scholarship Programme 2026 for Sub-Saharan African students

The DAAD In-Country/In-Region Masters/PhD Scholarship Programme provides development-related Master’s and PhD studies for Sub-Saharan African graduates, to be pursued in their home country or in another Sub-Saharan African country. The programme supports the usual duration of a Master’s (up to two years) or PhD (up to three years) and includes funding components such as a monthly scholarship, study and research allowances, and tuition fees, with additional travel allowances and health insurance for In-Region scholars. The aim is to foster internationally oriented higher education systems and to support careers in teaching and/or research in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Monthly scholarship, study and research allowance, thesis publishing costs, tuition fees; In-Region scholars also receive a travel allowance and health insurance.

Graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa with a first academic degree for Master’s studies or a Master’s degree for PhD studies who want to pursue Master’s or PhD courses in their home country or in another Sub-Saharan African country.
