CSEAS Visiting Research Fellowship

The CSEAS Visiting Research Fellowship offers a multi-month residential research opportunity at Kyoto University for mid-career and senior scholars in Southeast Asian studies, with opportunities to conduct independent research, access scholarly resources, and publish in affiliated journals. The 2027 intake will include fourteen fellowships on a competitive basis, with a librarian slot among them, and start dates spanning March to June 2027. Fellows are appointed as Kyoto University employees and based at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies in Kyoto, Japan, for three to six months.

Stipend for travel and living expenses; separate research funds; access to library and seminar programs; opportunity to publish in affiliated journals and book series.

Applicants must be established researchers of high standing, under 65 at appointment; a PhD is required unless prior approval is given by a CSEAS faculty member. Current graduate students and postdoctoral researchers are ineligible.
