Resolving unsolved cases in rare genetic and non-genetic diseases through variant validation and new technological approaches

This is a transnational research call under the European Rare Diseases Research Alliance (ERDERA) focusing on undiagnosed complex and multifactorial rare diseases to achieve diagnostic clarity. It supports multi-partner research consortia working on variant validation, multi-omics, new technological approaches, system biology, data integration and advanced AI/modeling tools. Projects are collaborative, multisite and require participation of multiple national/regional funding organisations. The maximum project duration is 36 months.

The call is aimed at researchers at universities, non-university research institutions and relevant industrial research departments active in the field of rare diseases. Each proposal must be carried by a consortium of minimum four and maximum six partners from at least four participating partner countries (expandable to eight partners in certain cases); a patient organisation is recommended in each consortium.

Two-stage submission: concept proposals submitted to the Call Secretariat electronic submission system, followed by invited full proposals. Applicants must also submit administrative and financial data and scientific abstracts for FWF-hosted subprojects via the FWF elane system in the specified program categories and by the stated local Vienna deadlines.
