First Book Grant for Scholars of Color 2025

The First Book Grant for Scholars of Color 2025 offers a research sabbatical grant to early-career scholars of color. Eligible candidates are self-identified persons of color who hold a terminal research degree (typically Ph.D. or Th.D.), are pre-tenured faculty in full-time, tenure-track or renewable contracts at accredited higher education institutions in the United States or Canada, and are pursuing a research project leading to a publishable first book (or a second book for tenure). They may work in fields including history, theology, social science, ethics, biblical studies, among others.

Applications are submitted online through the application portal; required materials include project summary, narrative, bibliography, budget, CV, letters of recommendation, and release letter.
