Wadsworth International Fellowship

The Wadsworth International Fellowship provides funding for students pursuing a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in anthropology at universities offering international-level training. Fellowships are intended for applicants from countries where anthropology is underrepresented and where there are limited resources to educate students overseas. Awards are renewable for up to two additional years and may also include an additional year for dissertation write-up upon separate application.

USD 20,000 per year; renewable for up to two additional years; possible additional year for dissertation write-up; covers travel, living expenses, tuition, taxes, fees, insurance, books and research costs (does not cover institutional overhead).

Applicants must be from countries with limited opportunities for advanced training in anthropology (applications from high-income countries are not accepted). Candidates must have a pending application for doctoral admission at their chosen host institution at the time of application and must have a host sponsor in the department who will oversee their training. Applicants who hold a relevant master’s degree or equivalent and applicants without a master’s degree are eligible under specified conditions described by the Foundation.

Applicants submit an application (portal opens two months before the March 1 deadline). Candidates must have a pending doctoral admission at a host institution, a host sponsor in the department, and a home sponsor in their home country; only one application per funding season is allowed and departments may be asked to rank multiple candidates.
