Genomics Research Internship Program (GRIPS)

The Genomics Research Internship Program (GRIPS) is a summer research internship placing high school students in genomics laboratories at Stanford for an immersive research and professional-development experience. The program runs as an eight-week, twenty-hour-per-week internship with laboratory work, weekly cohort sessions, mentor check-ins, and group workshops. The 2026 edition is hybrid and requires students to be able to come to Stanford campus when necessary. Participants conduct genomics research under the supervision of a lab mentor and take part in program activities and professional development.

Placement in a genomics research laboratory with a lab mentor, immersive hands-on research experience, professional development sessions, cohort community activities, and regular mentor check-ins.

Open to Bay Area local residents who reside in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, or Santa Cruz counties; students must be high school students aged 16 or older by the internship start date, have some prior knowledge of biology, chemistry, or computer programming, and an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0.
