Schmidt Science Fellowship

The Schmidt Science Fellowship is a postdoctoral fellowship that supports exceptional PhD graduates to undertake interdisciplinary research and leadership training. Fellows are placed at leading institutions (with UBC acting as an official nominating institution for the 2027 cohort) and engage in cross-disciplinary research distinct from their doctoral studies. The programme includes personalized mentoring, global networking, and participation in multiple residential meetings focused on leadership, science communication and innovation strategy.

Annual stipend ($110,000), postdoctoral placement at a leading institution, personalized mentoring, global networking, leadership training and four residential meetings.

Open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international applicants who hold or are nearing completion of a PhD in computer science, engineering, or the natural sciences; applicants must complete their PhD and be available for the full fellowship period including all global residential meetings.

Candidates are nominated by UBC (up to nine nominees) after submission of materials to their graduate programs; required materials include a CV, personal statement, collaboration statement, and a two-page research proposal with up to three target laboratories.
