The Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) provides funding to eligible Canadian media organizations to hire journalists or pay freelance journalists to produce original civic journalism for underserved communities across Canada. Content produced is made available under a Creative Commons license. The Initiative includes a Changing Narratives Fund stream to support hiring and professional development for journalists from diverse and underrepresented communities.

Beneficios

Funding to hire journalists or to pay freelance journalists to produce civic journalism; under the Changing Narratives Fund stream, supported journalists receive mentoring, training, and professional development activities.

Requisitos

Eligible Canadian media organizations: a press agency, a private news organization, or a non-profit news organization. Organizations must operate in written press, community radio, community television, or online news services and have an objective to increase local civic journalism in underserved communities. Private non-community broadcasters and the CBC/Radio-Canada are not eligible.
