Additional Needs Funding

Additional Needs Funding provides targeted financial support to cover additional needs that applicants and current award-holders require to undertake research or to make an application to a British Academy funding call. Requests are considered case-by-case and funds are intended for genuine, specific needs such as specialist equipment, assistance for sensory impairment, care costs while conducting research, or support to enable application submission. Funding is additional to any research expenses already requested and cannot be applied retroactively. Applications must follow the Academy's guidance and be submitted through the Academy's online system.

Financial support for additional needs (examples include specialist equipment, assistance for sensory impairment, childcare or other caring costs while conducting research, and support to enable application submission).

Available to current British Academy award-holders and to applicants intending to apply for a British Academy award in the next six months. Non-award-holders must identify the scheme they intend to apply for and meet that scheme's eligibility requirements; award-holders may only use funds during the remaining time of their award.

Apply online via the British Academy's Flexi-Grant system; applications require selection and approval by a host organisation from the Flexi-Grant dropdown. Applications are reviewed monthly and applicants are advised to apply at least two months before a related British Academy call where relevant.
