Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) Writing Fellowship 2025

The Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) invites applications for its ninth Writing Fellowship programme, to run as a 3-month residency from 1 April to 30 June 2025. The fellowship supports established scholars, creative practitioners, and thought leaders with a writing or creative project, hosted in Johannesburg with a focus on Global Blackness. Fellows receive a combination of travel, accommodation, meals, activities, access to facilities, and a stipend.

Flights (return economy), accommodation, meals, monthly enrichment activities, access to facilities, and a taxable monthly stipend totaling ZAR 90,000 for the 3-month residency.

Applicants should hold a PhD and demonstrate meaningful engagement in their field, while creative practitioners without a PhD should show a strong track record of exhibitions, projects, or interdisciplinary research.
