RAOS Yearly Competitions

The Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences (RAOS) organizes annual competitions to stimulate high-quality scientific research on problems inherent to overseas regions. Each Section of the Academy proposes a theme and a question; submissions should be original scientific manuscripts (a PhD thesis or work of equivalent level) no older than five years. Prizewinning works receive a cash award and the author is conferred the title "Prizewinner of the Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences". Submissions are accepted in English, French, Dutch, German and Spanish.

Cash prize of 2,500 EUR for each award-winning work and the title of "Prizewinner of the Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences"; awarded works remain at the Academy's secretariat.

The competition is open to all scientists worldwide without any age restriction; Academy members may not participate. Submitted works must be original and recent (maximum five years old) and be a PhD thesis or a work of equivalent level. Only submissions in English, French, Dutch, German or Spanish are considered.

Submit five paper copies and an electronic version (three paper copies and one electronic for candidates from developing and emerging countries), an abstract of max. 1,200 words and a curriculum vitae. Anonymous submissions allowed with a sealed envelope containing the author's name and address bearing a distinctive sign.
