Ghent University Doctoral Scholarships for Candidates from the Global South 2026

Applications are open for Ghent University Doctoral Scholarships for Candidates from the Global South 2026. The scholarships enable PhD candidates from Global South countries to conduct part of their doctoral research at Ghent University (North) and part at a partner university in the Global South (South). Ghent University finances the portion conducted in Ghent, covering a bench fee and travel-related costs for the researcher.

Financial support for part of the PhD research at Ghent, a travel budget, and research continuity for the joint PhD project.

Candidates must come from and have the nationality of one of the selected Global South countries; the proposals must be submitted jointly by the candidate, a Ghent University supervisor and a supervisor at the partner university in the Global South; the program is for students at the beginning of their PhD and exchange students are not eligible.
