Fellowships for Doctoral Research in Africa: Supporting Next Generation Scholars

The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) offers fellowships aimed at enhancing social science research in Africa for PhD candidates focusing on peacebuilding, security, and development. The Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Fellowships support PhD students developing their dissertation proposals and those who have recently completed a master’s degree, with funding available for short-term research costs. Program components include workshops, thought leadership development, and access to a network of African scholars and mentors.

Applicants must be African citizens who are enrolled in or intend to enroll in a PhD program at an accredited university in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, or Uganda, and hold a master’s degree at the time of application.
