BEACON (Broadcast Education and Communication Networks) Academy

BEACON (Broadcast Education and Communication Networks) is a gifted high school academy to open at South Elgin High School offering specialized coursework in mobile broadcasting, directing, media ethics and theory, broadcast journalism and Web design. The program will enroll a limited cohort (approximately 50 students) and includes a student-built television studio as part of the curriculum. It is designed to prepare students for placement into two- and four-year college journalism programs or for entry into media jobs after high school.

Specialized curriculum in broadcasting and media, hands-on experience building and operating a television studio, preparation for college media programs or direct entry into media jobs.

Teen high school students in the district; approximately 50 students will be accepted and applicants are interviewed as part of selection.
