The Akins High School Gifted and Talented (GT) Program serves secondary students in grades 9-12 with advanced instruction in Humanities (Language Arts and/or Social Studies) or STEM (Science and/or Math). Identified students are placed in advanced courses, Advanced Placement, dual credit (requires passing TSI score) or advanced-level CTE courses taught by teachers with GT training. The programme requires course selection during registration and includes procedures for furlough or exit if advanced courses are not selected in the student's area of giftedness. Referrals for GT identification are accepted during a defined referral window each school year.
