The Stern-Gerlach Medal is the highest award of the German Physical Society (DPG) for outstanding achievements in experimental physics. The award recognises one or more outstanding experimental works from the entire field of physics and is usually granted to one person at a time. The prize consists of a gold medal and a certificate with the award text and a short laudation; the award is preferably presented at a DPG conference and the laureate is expected to give a lecture.

Nominations must be submitted by others; self-nominations are not permitted. Nomination proposals must contain a detailed justification, a short laudation, a curriculum vitae, a list of publications if applicable, and suggestions for reviewers.
Candidature
Nominations are submitted (not by the nominee) to the DPG office and must include justification, laudation, CV, publication list and suggestions for reviewers; the prize committee reviews nominations annually and forwards proposals to the DPG Executive Board.
