The Herbert-Walther-Preis honors outstanding contributions in quantum optics and atomic physics and leadership in the international scientific community. The award is jointly made by the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG) and OPTICA and is presented alternately by the two societies. The prize includes a citation, a monetary stipend, a plaque, and an invitation to present the Walther Memorial Lecture at the presentation venue.

Conditions d'éligibilité
There are no membership or country-of-residence restrictions for nominators or nominees. Joint nominations are permitted; nominations must include a completed nomination form, a brief citation, a one-page narrative, a 2-page CV, and a minimum of four letters of reference.
Candidature
Nominations are solicited by the presenting Society; submit a completed nomination form, brief citation, one-page narrative, 2-page CV, and at least four letters of reference. A committee compiles a shortlist of three nominees which the partner Society uses to select the winner.
