UQ PhD Industry Placement Award

The UQ PhD Industry Placement Award is a one-off financial award for University of Queensland PhD candidates who complete an approved industry placement. The award provides a payment upon successful completion of a Graduate Research School coordinated PhD Industry Placement of at least 60 working days. Recipients may also be considered for a tuition extension and an extension to their thesis submission date up to a maximum of 3.75 years Full Time Equivalent. The scholarship value is stated as $9,375 (2026 rate, indexed annually).

One-off payment on successful completion of the placement; possible tuition extension; possible thesis submission date extension up to 3.75 years FTE.

Applicants must be UQ PhD candidates (full time or part time), either on a sponsor-managed stipend external to UQ or not receiving any living stipend scholarship, and must have successfully completed a Graduate Research School coordinated PhD Industry Placement of at least 60 working days. A completed project brief must be submitted within the first 18 months FTE of candidature and the placement must be completed at least one month before the current stipend expires.

Undertake an HDR Placement as part of the Graduate Research School Industry Placement Program and submit a completed project brief within the first 18 months FTE; complete placement requirements and submit completion reports to receive the award.
