Research Infrastructure Renewal

Research Infrastructure Renewal is a UKRI / NERC funding opportunity to support targeted capital investment that renews, replaces or enhances existing research infrastructure and facility capabilities for environmental science. It is for existing facilities, laboratories, platforms or capabilities that are demonstrably available to the wider environmental science community. Awards are intended to enable short-term implementation (projects of three to 12 months) to maintain and strengthen nationally important capabilities accessible to multiple users.

Capital funding awards of approximately £300,000 to £1,000,000 covering 100% of FEC to renew, replace or enhance research infrastructure capabilities.

Applicants must be based at an eligible UK research organisation and the application must be submitted on behalf of the infrastructure, facility, platform or capability that will receive the investment. Each individual may submit only one application as project lead and one application as project co-lead; NERC expects a single coordinated application from each infrastructure or facility.

Applications submitted through the UKRI funding service portal on behalf of the infrastructure/facility; applicants must provide a delivery schedule and expenditure profile and comply with UKRI eligibility and demand management requirements.
