Media Forward Fund

The Media Forward Fund is a non-profit transnational fund established in July 2024 to support independent, public interest journalism in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It awards multi-year grants to media organisations to help develop viable business models, strengthen editorial independence and expand distribution channels. Grants are complemented by coaching, capacity building and training for grantees. The fund intends to run multiple calls per year and includes a dedicated funding line for science journalism.

Project grants (up to c. €400,000 per medium), coaching, capacity building and training

The fund supports public interest media organisations operating in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; grants are awarded per medium. Re-applications are possible. A dedicated funding line for science journalism is planned.

Calls for applications; the first call launched in July 2024, the fund plans to run three calls per year; the next call was scheduled for mid-March 2025 and will be complemented by information sessions and training courses.
