TARTGET Painting Prize 2026

An international painting competition open to artists working in contemporary and traditional painting techniques. The programme includes an online selection, a final physical exhibition at the Ateneo de Madrid and a range of prize categories, residencies and professional-development opportunities. Submissions are image-based and shortlisted works are sent to Madrid for the final jury and exhibition. The prize fund exceeds €100,000 and includes cash awards, residencies and acquisition funds.

Cash prizes (Gold €12,000; Silver €6,000; Bronze €4,000), category prizes (€4,000), multiple €500 awards, €10,000 acquisition fund, art residencies (including National Park Tablas de Daimiel and Atelier Madrid summer residency), exhibition in Ateneo de Madrid, professional promotion, materials and training prizes.

Artists from anywhere in the world may apply regardless of citizenship, age or stage of career; the competition is open to both emerging and professional artists. Accepted works must be original paintings created within the last three years and not previous prize winners; photography, digital painting, prints and reproductions are excluded.

Shortlisted works from the virtual jury are invited to send original artworks to Madrid for the final exhibition. artists handle logistics and shipping.
