Gottfried-und-Vera-Weiss-Preis

The Gottfried-und-Vera-Weiss-Preis is a privately funded research prize that supports excellent researchers in carrying out research projects in meteorology and related fields. The 2026 thematic call targets fundamental research in meteorology, including climate research, atmospheric research and environmental/sustainability topics. Funding is provided via the Dr. Gottfried und Dr. Vera Weiss Wissenschaftsstiftung in cooperation with the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). Projects may be submitted within several FWF programme tracks (Einzelprojekte, ESPRIT, Erwin Schrödinger) and funding conditions depend on the chosen programme.

Project funding (amount and duration program-dependent); €200,000 total budget from the foundation for the call; increased general project costs (+10% for foundation-funded individual projects; +5% for ESPRIT/Erwin Schrödinger projects).

The 2026 call is aimed at researchers (Wissenschaftler:innen) conducting basic research in meteorology.
