The Otto-Hahn-Preis is a joint prize of the City of Frankfurt am Main, the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh) and the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG) recognising outstanding scientific achievements. The award is presented with a ceremonial act in the Frankfurter Paulskirche and consists of a certificate, a commemorative plaque and a monetary prize. The prize money is normally €50,000 and is awarded to promote science in the fields of chemistry, physics and applied engineering. A curatorium selects the laureates and the prize is intended to be awarded every two years.
