Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2025–2026

The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are competitive scholarships for research, PhD, postdoctoral and arts study or research at Swiss higher education institutions. Multiple scholarship types are offered, including Research Scholarships, PhD Scholarships, Postdoctoral Scholarships and Arts Scholarships. Some scholarship types require a nomination from the chosen Swiss host institution or an academic mentor. Applications from candidates based in the Republic of Lithuania are processed via the national liaison foundation.

For applicants from the Republic of Lithuania: Research Scholarships — for doctoral students, researchers and young medical doctors holding at least a master's degree (nomination by a Swiss host/mentor required); PhD Scholarships — for doctoral studies for those holding at least a master's degree; Postdoctoral Scholarships — for researchers holding a doctoral degree; Arts Scholarships — for students/young artists holding a bachelor's degree (master's degree holders are not eligible for Arts Scholarships).

Applicants submit required documents to the Education Exchanges Support Foundation (Švietimo mainų paramos fondas) in Vilnius (physical submission or by post). Research applicants require a nomination from the chosen Swiss academic mentor; final decisions made by the federal commission.
