Canada Graduate Research Scholarships – Doctoral (CGRS D)

The Canada Graduate Research Scholarships – Doctoral (CGRS D) is a national doctoral scholarship program administered through Canada's three federal research granting agencies (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) and offered via host institutions such as the University of British Columbia. It supports outstanding doctoral students to pursue high-quality research training and contribute to the Canadian research ecosystem. The award provides financial support to recipients to enable concentration on doctoral studies.

$40,000 per year for three years

Open to applicants at the PhD level; eligible country listing: All Countries. Applicants must meet the CGRS D eligibility requirements and submit applications via a Canadian institution such as UBC where applicable.

Apply via the appropriate funding agency portal or through a Canadian host institution (e.g. UBC) by the institution's internal deadline; submit official transcripts and referee assessments and select the funding agency aligned with the research area (CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC). If applying via UBC, complete the UBC CGRS D application by the UBC deadline.
