PEC-PG (Programa de Estudantes-Convênio de Pós-Graduação) – CAPES Brazilian Government Scholarships 2026

The PEC-PG scholarship programme, coordinated by CAPES in partnership with CNPq and the Ministry of External Relations (MRE), funds international students from partner countries to pursue master’s and doctoral studies at Brazilian public universities. The programme provides a monthly living stipend, basic health insurance or access to health services, and may include a one-time international travel allowance. Tuition at Brazilian public universities is generally free, so the scholarship primarily covers living and related costs during postgraduate study.

Monthly stipend, basic health insurance or access to health services, tuition exemption at public universities (public universities generally do not charge tuition), and possible one-time international travel allowance.

Applicants must be citizens of a country that has a bilateral cooperation agreement with Brazil under the PEC-PG programme, must not hold Brazilian citizenship or permanent residency, must hold a bachelor’s degree for master’s applications or a master’s degree for doctoral applications, and must have been admitted or pre-approved by a postgraduate programme at a Brazilian public university. Annual calls may specify age limits (typically under 45 for master’s and under 50 for PhD) and Portuguese proficiency requirements.

Applicants must secure pre-admission from a Brazilian public postgraduate programme, register and complete the application on the CAPES portal, submit required documents, and apply via the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate in their country according to the annual call.
