Vijfjaarlijkse prijzen der geneeskundige wetenschappen

The Vijfjaarlijkse prijzen der geneeskundige wetenschappen are quinquennial awards granted to distinguished researchers in the medical sciences, with one prize for Dutch-speaking researchers and one for French-speaking researchers. For the period 2021–2025 the fundamental sciences prize is reserved for a French-speaking researcher and the clinical or applied sciences prize for a Dutch-speaking researcher. Each prize carries a monetary award and is intended for researchers regarded as being at the top of their field.

Monetary prize of €18,000 for each laureate.

Only individual researchers with Belgian nationality may be proposed; candidates must not have applied for an Academy prize in the 12 months before the deadline and must not be a previous laureate. The award is intended for renowned researchers at the top of their field. Works submitted must be a monograph or a bundle of publications in Dutch, French, German or English and must not previously have received an equivalent or higher prize or be a thesis written to obtain an academic degree.

A candidacy must be proposed by a joint supporting letter signed by three members of one of the two Academies of Medicine; complete the official form and web form and attach a Web of Science search result listing the 50 most cited publications and a PDF with up to 10 relevant publications. French-speaking candidates apply via Académie royale de Médecine de Belgique.
