NIAS Individual Fellowship for Humanities and Social Sciences Researchers 2026

The program provides residencies of five or ten months and brings together an international cohort in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. Fellows receive time and space for their research, access to NIAS facilities, and integration into an interdisciplinary community with practical and academic support.

Applicants must have at least three years of academic experience since obtaining a PhD (or equivalent experience for journalists, artists, or authors). Project proposals must relate to the humanities or social sciences. Applicants do not need a permanent university or research institute position. The working language is English; strong English proficiency is required. Open to applicants from all countries, except those currently affiliated with Russian or Belarusian institutions (with some exceptions for nationals of those countries).
