Global Exchange for RISD Students

A semester-long exchange program that places RISD students at partner art and design colleges and universities around the world. Participants study for one semester (taking the equivalent of 12-15 RISD credits) at a host institution and immerse themselves in the local cultural and academic context. The program is intended for mature, independent students seeking an immersive cross-cultural experience. Scholarship opportunities are embedded in the course application.

Enrollment for one semester at a partner institution with transfer of 12-15 RISD credits (credits transferable when a grade of C or better is earned) and an immersive cultural and academic experience abroad.

Open to RISD juniors and seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA; Brown|RISD Dual Degree students must apply through Brown University using their Petition Process.

Complete an online application portal; apply the semester before you plan to attend. The Spring 2027 application opens 2026-08-03 and closes 2026-10-01. Scholarship application is embedded in the Global Exchange application.
