Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa: Post-Doctoral Writing Fellowship 2025

The Social Science Research Council offers a post-doctoral writing fellowship as part of the Next Gen program to support the completion of a dissertation manuscript or a book manuscript related to peace, security, and development. The fellowship provides up to six months of dedicated writing time with a stipend of up to US$3,000, enabling recipients to focus on finalizing a manuscript for peer-reviewed publication. It is available exclusively for Next Gen alumni and requires taking leave from teaching and administrative duties during the award period.

Applicants must be citizens of sub-Saharan Africa, hold a doctorate from an accredited university in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, or Uganda, be a past recipient of at least one Next Gen Doctoral Dissertation fellowship, be prepared to take at least three months of leave from their current duties, and be affiliated with an academic department in one of the specified countries at the time of the award.
