Fulbright Foreign Student Program for Ph.D. Candidates

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program for Ph.D. Candidates awards grants for short-term full-time research stays at universities or research centers in the United States. It is for doctoral candidates enrolled at Greek institutions of higher education and supports 4–6 month research periods at up to two U.S. host institutions. The programme requires an official invitation/affiliation from a U.S. host and emphasizes advanced-stage dissertation research, academic excellence and potential to serve as a cultural ambassador for Greece.

Monthly allowance up to US$3,250; round-trip travel allowance up to €2,000; limited health/accident insurance; pre-departure orientation; visa (J-1) assistance; certificate of completion; participation in Fulbright enrichment seminars and community/networking opportunities.

Applicants must hold Greek citizenship (Greek passport), be officially enrolled as Ph.D. candidates at a Greek institution, hold a B.A./M.A. from a recognized Greek institution, have minimum B.A. GPA 7.0/10, have completed between one and four years of Ph.D. research at time of application, have endorsement from their Ph.D. supervisor, reside permanently in Greece and finalize their dissertation in Greece; U.S./Greek dual citizens are not eligible.

Mandatory registration during the registration period, followed by submission of the application by the application deadline. Applicants must secure an official letter of invitation/affiliation from a U.S. university or research center and provide supervisor endorsement.
