Butterfield Awards in Medicine and Health

The Butterfield Awards in Medicine and Health are competitive grants supporting exchanges and collaborations between health and medical professionals in the UK and Japan. Awards may fund scientific, clinical, social and economic studies in healthcare and can support travel, conference and publication costs. Grants of up to £10,000 are available for one-year projects; continuing projects may be funded for up to three years at a maximum of £10,000 per year (total limit £30,000). Projects must involve partners in both the UK and Japan and be supported by reputable referees and host institution facilities.

Monetary grant (up to £10,000 per year), support for travel, conference and publication costs; eligibility for NIHR Clinical Research Network Support as a non-commercial partner.

Applicants should normally be able to show an existing research record; consideration is also given to practitioners, managers, carers or others in health-related fields who intend to establish working links between organisations or produce a publishable comparative study. Preference is given to applicants who have not previously been involved in UK–Japan collaboration and to those in the early stages of their career.

Complete the Butterfield application form and submit it to the Foundation's London office with project outline (executive summary, schedule, participants, host facilities, significance, outcomes, budget) and supporting materials (partner letter, CVs, ethical approval where appropriate, two professional references).
