DLGS PhD Scholarship 2027

The DLGS PhD Scholarship is a fully funded doctoral programme at the Dresden Leibniz Graduate School (DLGS) focused on research into sustainable urban mobility transformations. It supports full-time, three-year doctoral projects addressing topics such as digitalisation, automation and the integration of transport and spatial development. The programme emphasises interdisciplinary and data-driven methods, participatory approaches and co-creation, and is run jointly by the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) and TU Dresden. Successful candidates receive a monthly stipend and additional support for travel and research activities.

Monthly stipend of €1,515 for three years; support for travel and research activities; full-time scholarship for a 3-year doctoral research period.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (examples listed include transport studies, urban planning, geography, data science, urban informatics, economics, business, sociology, political science, transition studies). The first Master’s degree must have been obtained within the last three years and candidates should demonstrate above-average academic performance (equivalent to German ‘gut’ or higher). Research proposals must align with the IOER research profile; German C1 is required for transdisciplinary projects linked to IOER activities in the Dresden/Saxony region.
