2026 International Joint Initiative for Research Harnessing Disruptive Technologies to Address Global Challenges

The International Joint Initiative for Research Harnessing Disruptive Technologies to Address Global Challenges is a multinational call for interdisciplinary research projects that apply disruptive technologies to tackle global societal challenges and advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The initiative is administrated by the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF), Canada, in collaboration with multiple national research funders and Nordic partners. Nordic participation is managed by NordForsk in partnership with national Nordic research councils, which will co-finance Nordic teams. The call intends to fund Nordic participation in up to twelve research projects.

Grant funding for participating research teams (Nordic partners may receive up to ~17.1 MNOK in total); support for international collaborative research addressing SDGs.

Each project team must be international and eligible to receive funds from at least three participating funding organisations, one of which must be Canadian. Projects applying for funding from NordForsk must include research partners from at least two different Nordic countries, and one Nordic team member must serve as co-principal investigator.
