SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program

The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program provides full tuition and an annual stipend to students pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees in STEM disciplines. Scholars receive health and book allowances, mentorship, and may complete summer internships at a DoD facility; after graduation they work as civilian employees for DoD for a period equal to the length of funding. The program is open to U.S., Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, and United Kingdom citizens meeting eligibility requirements.

Open to high school seniors and incoming college freshmen planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Fall 2027, as well as current students pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees in approved STEM disciplines who can obtain a security clearance.
