MRC Centre of Research Excellence (MRC CoRE): round five

The MRC Centre of Research Excellence (MRC CoRE) is a major UK research funding programme to support bold, interdisciplinary biomedical and health-research programmes addressing complex health challenges. Awards are long-term centre-level investments, initially funded for seven years with a possible further seven years following review, and are intended to provide a stimulating environment to train researchers and technologists. Applications may be from a single eligible UK research organisation or from partnerships of eligible organisations and may include project partners. The funding is positioned to synergise with existing national and international investments in the field.

Centre-level research funding up to £26.25 million FEC (up to £21 million MRC contribution) for up to 14 years, support for research culture and training environment.

Applicants must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for MRC funding and be part of the proposed MRC CoRE leadership team; applicants must demonstrate they will direct the project or be actively engaged, and have the relevant expertise and experience to lead or contribute. Organisations may lead one outline application in this round; international researchers may participate as co-leads but international organisations cannot lead.
