Clinical Future Leaders Fellowship

The Clinical Future Leaders Fellowship is a long-term fellowship supporting clinician scientists to transition to research independence and leadership in cancer research. It provides funding to establish and lead an independent research group based at a UK university, medical school, hospital or research institute. The award supports a 7-year fellowship with funding typically up to £2.5 million plus the host organisation’s contribution towards the fellow’s salary. Fellows are expected to remain clinically active while undertaking protected research time.

Research funding (typically up to £2.5m), support for salary contribution by the host institution, protected research time and resources to establish an independent research group.

Applicants must be clinicians eligible to practise medicine in the UK with GMC registration (or will hold this), hold a higher degree (MD/PhD), have obtained CCT (or equivalent) and hold consultant status or equivalent when the fellowship starts, and have undertaken postdoctoral research with appropriate contributions. Applicants must be based at a UK university, medical school, hospital or research institution and have space and facilities to run an independent research group. Applicants may not hold a fully-funded salaried position or previously have held a substantial multi-year fellowship as an independent PI.
