MTA Visiting Researcher Programme (2027 call)

The MTA Visiting Researcher Programme invites internationally outstanding foreign researchers with an academic degree for 3–6 month visits to Hungarian research groups to carry out joint research. Selected visiting researchers participate under an employment or contract arrangement at the host research institution in Hungary. The programme supports visits in any scientific discipline and is not intended for short site visits, conference participation or lecture series. The supported research stay must take place between 2026-12-01 and 2027-11-30 and conclude by 2027-11-30.

Monthly grant up to HUF 2,500,000 (gross) covering salary/fee, contributions and material costs; support is non-repayable. Host institution provides employment/contractual relationship and may provide logistical and administrative assistance for travel and accommodation.

Applications may be submitted by leaders of Hungarian research groups at domestic research institutions, higher education institutions or designated public collections/institutions in cooperation with outstanding foreign researchers who hold an academic degree. The visiting researcher must not be habitually resident in Hungary at the time of application.

Initial contact between host group leader and visiting researcher; prepare a joint 3–6 month research plan; the visiting researcher completes and signs the application form and sends it to the host leader; the host institution approves and signs required declarations and budget and submits the completed application via the electronic application system (with specified postal submission for requested paper documents).
