U.S. Department of State Student Internship Program 2026

The U.S. Department of State Student Internship Program offers paid internships in U.S. embassies, consulates, and bureaus in Washington, D.C., and other U.S. locations. It provides work experience in foreign affairs and an inside look at diplomacy in action for undergraduate and graduate students residing in the United States. The Spring 2026 application is open, with the Summer 2026 cycle opening in October 2025.

Paid internship with government employment status, travel assistance, and housing support.

U.S. citizens who are undergraduate students (juniors or seniors) or graduate students enrolled in a degree-seeking program, and who can obtain the required security clearances and are able to return to school after the internship.

Create an account on USAJOBS.gov, navigate to the Student Internship Program, and complete the application package as directed.
