APEX Awards 2027 for Researchers

The APEX Awards offer established independent researchers an opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary, curiosity-driven research with seed funding. The awards aim to support collaboration across disciplines and enable researchers to develop new directions in their work, including cross-disciplinary projects involving science, engineering, and the social sciences and humanities. The maximum award value is up to £200,000 to cover staff costs, research costs and public engagement costs.

Funding up to £200,000; support for interdisciplinary collaboration and seed funding to develop new research directions.

Lead applicants must be exceptional independent researchers with a strong track record, in a permanent or fixed-term position, based at a UK university or UK not-for-profit research organisation; co-applicants must have complementary expertise and come from different disciplines.

Applications should be submitted through the Royal Society’s grant management system, Flexi-Grant.
