Outreachy May 2026 Internship Cohort

Outreachy offers paid internships in free and open source software for people from groups underrepresented in FOSS. Interns work on mentored open source projects hosted by participating communities and organizations. The May 2026 cohort runs from May 18, 2026 to August 17, 2026 and includes a structured feedback and stipend payment schedule. Projects cover a range of technical areas including programming, tooling and platform development.

$3,000 and $4,000 stipend payments during the internship period

Open to people from groups underrepresented in free and open source software.

Initial applications opened Feb 6, 2026 with an initial deadline Feb 13, 2026; contributors work on projects March 20–April 15, 2026; final application deadline Apr 15, 2026. Applicants apply via the Outreachy application pages.
