University of Oxford African Studies Centre Postdoctoral Research Fellow in African Studies 2026

The African Studies Centre at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in African Studies for a two-year fixed-term position. The fellow will pursue an independent research programme within the broad theme of “Africa and the World” or Africa in the contemporary global order, contribute to teaching and supervision, and participate in seminars and conferences at Oxford. The position aims to support an early-career scholar in consolidating and launching their postdoctoral career within one of the world’s leading centres for African Studies.

38 days of annual leave (including public holidays) with option to purchase up to 10 extra days; up to 26 weeks of full-pay maternity/adoption leave and 12 weeks of full-pay paternity/partner leave; contributory pension; cycle loan, discounted bus travel, season ticket loans; access to university clubs and facilities.

Candidates should hold, or be near completion of, a relevant doctorate by the start of employment, and no earlier than three years before 1 January 2026. Applications from all academic fields are welcome.
