Summer Research Early Identification Program

The Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) is a fully paid summer research internship that provides undergraduates with training and mentoring in research and prepares them to pursue competitive applications to PhD or MD-PhD programs. Participants spend 8–11 weeks at Leadership Alliance member institutions working under faculty or research mentors and make oral or poster presentations at the Leadership Alliance National Symposium. The program offers disciplinary placements across the life and physical sciences, social and behavioral sciences, and the humanities and includes professional development mentoring on applying to graduate programs.

Stipend; travel and housing expenses covered; mentorship by faculty/research mentors; professional development mentoring; presentation opportunity at the Leadership Alliance National Symposium; access to ongoing resources and networks.

Be a documented U.S. citizen or non-citizen national, or permanent resident (I-551 or equivalent) at time of application; be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university in the United States or its territories; have GPA of 3.0 or better; demonstrate committed interest in pursuing graduate study toward a PhD or MD-PhD; have completed at least two semesters and have at least one semester remaining by the start of the summer program. International F-1 visa students, asylum seekers and refugees are not eligible.

Apply online beginning November 1, 2025. Applicants must ensure the full application package, including two letters of recommendation and official transcript(s), is received by the February 3, 2026 deadline.
