Artificial Intelligence for Development in Africa - AI4D Africa Scholarships 2025 for PhD students in AI and ML

The AI4D Africa Scholarships fund PhD studies in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and support related research work for Early Career Academics in AI & ML. The program is funded by a grant from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and focuses on AI addressing Sustainable Development Goals. The awards involve a partial scholarship with provisions for tuition, research activities and related costs, with a goal of equitable representation across sub-Saharan Africa and gender balance.

Partial tuition coverage, research funding, travel support, and resources for research activities for eligible participants.

Applicants must be already registered in an AI-related PhD program (or Early Career Academic) with a supervisor, have a approved research proposal, and meet language and nationality requirements for eligible sub-Saharan countries.
