PhD Position in Real-Time Multimodal Construction Transport Optimization & AI-Driven Decision Support

The University of Twente invites applications for a four-year PhD position focused on developing AI-based and optimization-driven decision-support systems for real-time multimodal construction logistics. The project aims to enable efficient, low-emission multimodal transport for prefabricated construction through advanced optimization, simulation, and data-driven modeling. The position includes a doctoral salary and integration into an international, multi-partner research environment.

Gross monthly salary (€3,059 in Year 1 rising to €3,881 in Year 4), 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, 29 paid holidays per year, full employee status under CAO-NU with pension and social security, access to Twente Graduate School training and development, and an international research environment with industry and municipal collaboration.

Must hold a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Transport Engineering, or a closely related field; strong interest and/or experience in optimization, simulation, data-driven modeling, decision support systems or AI.
