MRC Doctoral Training Partnership Programme in Translational Biomedical Sciences

The MRC Doctoral Training Partnership Programme in Translational Biomedical Sciences is a funded PhD studentship programme run by the University of Southampton and Queen Mary University of London. Students undertake a one-year MRes with laboratory rotations followed by a three-year original research project in areas such as cancer immunology, infectious disease, inflammation, bioengineering and applications of digital technologies. Successful candidates receive a four-year funded studentship starting September 2026 and join the partner university research communities. Some projects include industry links and potential for stipend enhancement.

Applicants must hold a 1st class or 2:1 degree in a subject within the life sciences or physical sciences; life-sciences applicants with Maths/Statistics/Computing modules are desirable and physical-sciences applicants require biological-sciences undergraduate modules. Applicants must meet MRC student eligibility requirements and apply to either Southampton or QMUL (do not apply to both).
