Physics of Emergence Funding Competition

The Physics of Emergence Funding Competition is a grant programme to support scientific investigations of phenomena characterized as strong emergence in the physical sciences. It funds research projects in physics, philosophy of physics, and related fields that address whether and how strongly emergent phenomena arise and what they imply about the nature of reality. Projects may be interdisciplinary and should focus on cases or organizing principles of strong emergence as defined by the competition. The competition expected to support both theoretical and experimental projects.

Research grant funding up to $600,000 and project support for up to 30 months; part of a multi-project award portfolio (approx. $5M across 12-18 projects).

Researchers in all areas of the physical sciences, philosophy of physics, and related fields are encouraged to apply.
