BHF Research Professorship

The BHF Research Professorship is a competitive funded award for exceptional cardiovascular researchers to build leadership and expand the impact of their research portfolios. Awards provide flexible funding to grow research capacity at the host institution and expect the Professor to act as an ambassador for the British Heart Foundation. Appointments support research across a broad spectrum of disciplines relevant to the BHF mission and may be targeted to strategic priority areas.

Flexible research funding up to £400,000 per year; support for staff, research costs, equipment, translation and commercialisation, collaboration, training, engagement and travel; five-year award with possible renewal to ten years.

Eligible candidates are leading principal investigators with an internationally competitive track record in cardiovascular research, substantively employed by a UK academic/research institution and conducting the majority of their research activities in the UK. At nomination deadline the candidate must be PI of at least one competitively awarded programme grant or equivalent with a minimum of three years of funding remaining and have research as their primary role.

Two-stage process: nomination by the host university followed by a full application and interview. Nominations are accepted throughout the year and reviewed concurrently; full applications are considered once a year. In exceptional circumstances BHF may consider applications outside the annual cycle.
