Translational Pump Priming Awards

The Translational Pump Priming Awards provide agile, short-term funding to generate proof-of-concept data that advances innovations in heart, stroke and circulatory diseases along the translational pathway. Awards support activities such as prototype development, validation studies, outsourced contract work and consultancy to address a single pivotal question that enables progression to larger translational funding. Projects must be translational (not exploratory discovery research) and aimed at technologies including therapeutics, devices, diagnostics, imaging, digital solutions and early-phase clinical studies. Awards are time-limited and intended to make subsequent competitive translational applications more feasible.

Up to £50,000 of project funding for up to 9 months covering consumables, outsourced contract work and consultancy; support aimed at producing proof-of-concept data to progress translational research.

The principal investigator must be a researcher working in an established research institution in the UK; eligible applicants include post-doctoral researchers, heads of groups and fellows. Individuals or teams from commercial organisations may participate only as collaborators with appropriate collaboration agreements.

One-stage application submitted via the BHF Grants Management System. Receipt acknowledged within 24 hours. Applications accepted on a rolling basis; decisions typically within approximately six weeks. Successful applicants must submit a final report and a follow-on report one year after completion.
