Rethinking Empire: War, Coloniality, and New Internationalism Postdoctoral Fellowships

The University of Potsdam in Germany, in collaboration with the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung’s International Research Group on Authoritarianism and Counter-Strategies (IRGAC), offers up to three fully funded postdoctoral fellowships under the theme Rethinking Empire: War, Coloniality, and New Internationalism. The 20-month fellowship runs from May 2026 to December 2027 and supports full-time research and international collaboration on imperialism, authoritarianism, and global power dynamics, with a research base at Potsdam’s Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. Funding includes a tax-free monthly scholarship, travel allowance, health insurance support, and potential additional funding for accompanying spouses or children, plus access to workshops and publishing opportunities.

Open to academically strong researchers from the Global South who hold a PhD completed within the last eight years and have research experience related to imperialism, coloniality, authoritarianism, or global political transformations.
